Mexico's Hector Herrera and Portugal's Joao Felix Join Koke to Represent Atletico de Madrid at the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge
July 18, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK - MLS today announced that Atlético de Madrid star signings, Portuguese international João Felix and Mexican international Héctor Herrera, will feature alongside Spanish midfielder Koke to represent Atlético de Madrid at the 2019 MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by Target . A groundbreaking collaboration with the world-renowned soccer skills duo The F2 Freestylers, the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge will bring audiences around the world a chance to experience world-class stars in a unique competition through live streams on MLSsoccer.com, the MLS App, across all five domestic broadcast partners in the U.S. and Canada, globally through international media partners, as well as on Twitch and Twitter.
The Atlético de Madrid trio will represent the Spanish super club, facing off against a trio representing the MLS All-Stars (Wayne Rooney, Carlos Vela , Jonathan dos Santos) and a trio from Orlando City SC (Nani, Chris Mueller, Sebastian Mendez).
Atlético de Madrid has had an active offseason of signings and fans around the world will be treated to seeing a different side of two of their most notable additions.
A veteran of two FIFA World Cups for El Tri, Herrera arrives at Atlético de Madrid after playing six seasons as a regular at FC Porto, helping the team to the 2017-18 Portuguese league title. The midfielder has also played in 41 UEFA Champions League matches during his time there.
At just 19 years old, Felix arrives after scoring 15 goals in his first season with Portuguese giant Benfica. His reported â¬126 million transfer fee surpassed the â¬112 million fee Juventus paid for Cristiano Ronaldo, making Felix the most expensive Portuguese player of all time, and the fifth most expensive player in the world ever, only behind players like Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.
The MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by Target will be part of an exciting night of action on Tuesday, July 30, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. As part of a dual-event ticket, fans will be able to enjoy both the MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer at 5 p.m. ET, followed by the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by Target at 8 p.m. ET. Tickets are available for purchase at: www.MLSsoccer.com/AllStar.
Fans who cannot be in attendance can still be a part of the action. Both domestic and global audiences experiencing the action via streams on Twitch (twitch.tv/mls) and Twitter (@MLS) can participate in interactive elements throughout the broadcast, including a fan vote.
