Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

Waldorf, MD - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced Tuesday that right handed pitcher, Brandon Cumpton's contract has been purchased by Pericos de Puebla, a Triple-A Minor League team in the Mexican Baseball League.

Cumpton is the second Blue Crabs starting pitcher to have his contract purchased in the last week, and the third of the season.

Early in the year, Southern Maryland's Pat Dean had his contract purchased by the Colorado Rockies', and headed to their Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes. Just last Thursday, July 18th, Craig Stem's contract was purchased by Bravos de León of the Mexican League, and now Cumpton is headed south as well. The former teammates will serve premiere roles on opposing team's in the league ordained by Major League Baseball as a member at the Triple-A circuit.

2019 marks the second consecutive season that Cumpton has started the season with Southern Maryland, and later had his contract purchased. The right-hander's contract was purchased on the Fourth of July by the Toronto Blue Jays organization in 2018, and he was tossing at the MLB level less than a month later.

The MLB veteran is fresh off back-to-back eye-popping starts. He didn't allow a single run in either of his last two outings, while heeding just nine total hits.
