St. Lucie Mets News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets and Tampa Yankees split a doubleheader on Monday at Steinbrenner Field. The Yankees coasted to a 5-0 win in the first game while the Mets bounced back for a dominant 10-0 victory in game 2.

In game 2, the Mets took advantage of wildness from Yankees starter Will Carter in a five-run second inning. Carter walked three, hit a batter and threw two wild pitches that let runners score from third.

Overall, four Yankees pitchers combined for seven walks, two hit batters and three wild pitches.

That was in stark contrast to a brilliant pitching performance from Mets starter Scarlyn Reyes. Reyes pitched six shutout innings and struck out 11 batters. The 11 strikeouts are the most by any Mets pitcher this season. Reyes struck out the side three different times.

John Mora went 3 for 4 with a run scored. Jhoan Urena was 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs.

Jonathan Johnson walked three times, scored twice and had a RBI.

Rehabbing catcher Travis d'Arnaud served as the DH for the entire game and went 1 for 2 with two walks.

In game 1, Josh Rogers threw a complete game three-hit shut out for the Yankees. He walked two and struck out four while throwing 90 pitches.

Rogers retired the last eight Mets in order.

The Yankees did most of their damage in the third inning when they scored four runs against Chris Flexen. Wes Wilson led off with a double and later scored on a sac fly. Flexen walked three in a row with two outs to force home a run and reload the bases. Jake Skole followed with a two-run single that made it 4-0 and knocked Flexen out of the game.

Back-to-back doubles by Devyn Bolasky and Miguel Andujar in the fifth pushed across the Yankees final run.

The three hits for the Mets were all singles. The hits came from Wuilmer Becerra, Champ Stuart and Luis Guillorme.

D'Arnaud caught all seven innings and threw out one of two base stealers. At the plate he was 0 for 2 with a walk.

Flexen went 2.2 innings and allowed four hits and four runs. He walked three, hit a batter and struck out one.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Mets, which was a season high.

Next Up: The Mets (31-31, T-2nd) and Yankees (40-23) will play a single nine inning game on Tuesday. First pitch from Steinbrenner Field is 7 p.m.
