Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Malquin Canelo delivered the key blow on Monday night, coming through with a two-out single to score a pair in the eighth and lift the Clearwater Threshers to a 3-1 win over the Bradenton Marauders at Bright House Field.

Alexis Rivero (4-1) earned the win after a dominant relief appearance.

The right-hander secured the final out of the sixth and took the reins the rest of the way, setting down all ten men he faced in a perfect 3.1 innings. Rivero needed just 32 pitches and struck out three, lowering his ERA to 1.16 as the Florida State League All-Star earned his fourth win in relief.

Threshers pitching has held the Marauders - who entered the series with the second-highest team batting average in the FSL - to just two runs on eight hits total through their first two meetings.

Yacksel Rios delivered his strongest outing of the season, but would not factor in the decision.

Rios held the Marauders (34-28) off the board through the first five innings, as the teams battled to a scoreless tie. A leadoff walk to Kevin Kramer in the sixth opened the door to the game's first run.

A groundout advanced Kramer to second with two down, and Rios had a 2-2 count on Taylor Gushue before a single through the right side scored Kramer to bump Bradenton in front 1-0.

Rios exited after a season-long 5.2 innings, permitting just one run on four hits and two walks. He matched a career-high with six strikeouts, throwing 96 pitches, 57 for strikes.

Down a run, the Threshers had an answer in the bottom half.

Scott Kingery pulled a one-out single to left, and swiped second for his 14th steal of the year.

With two outs, Zach Green delivered the liner into left field that would permit Kingery to race across, knotting the game up at one.

It remained deadlocked until the bottom of the eighth, when reliever Tate Scioneaux (2-1) walked Kyle Martin and plunked Green to put a pair on with one out.

After Derek Campbell pinch ran for Green at first, Mitch Walding's deep fly ball to center allowed both runners to advance to scoring position with two outs.

Bradenton went to the bullpen and called in Miguel Rosario, who quickly got ahead of Canelo with two strikes.

Canelo came through, rolling a grounder up the middle to score both Martin and Campbell with the decisive runs, giving the Threshers the 3-1 lead.

The series continues on Dollar Tuesday, presented by Regions Bank, as Clearwater calls Ranfi Casimiro (5-4) to the hill against Bradenton's Austin Coley (8-4). First pitch is at 7 p.m., and all the action can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network starting at 6:45 p.m.
