Mets Shut out Blue Jays 3-0

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Thursday was a bullpen day for the St. Lucie Mets and five pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout of the Dunedin Blue Jays in a 3-0 win at First Data Field.

Jake Simon, Darwin Ramos, Yeizo Campos, Carlos Hernandez and Ezequiel Zabaleta combined for 13 strikeouts in the rubber game victory.

Simon, making his first start of the season, pitched the first three innings. He fanned three, gave up one hit and did not walk a batter.

Ramos followed with 2.1 scoreless innings and was credited with the victory.

Campos stranded the bases loaded in the sixth to keep the Mets up 3-0. He contributed 1.1 innings.

Hernandez got the last out of the seventh and all three outs in the eighth.

Zabaleta struck out the side in a perfect ninth to improve to 5 for 5 in save opportunities.

The Mets scored the only run they needed in the second inning. Mitch Ghelfi hit a two-out triple off of Dunedin's Turner Larkins and Matt Winaker followed with a RBI single.

Blake Tiberi hit a RBI double, his team-high 20th of the season, to bring home Edgardo Fermin in the third for a 2-0 lead.

Jeremy Vasquez extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a RBI single that plated Jacob Zanon in the fifth.

The Mets have won all three series they've played in the second half. At 8-2 they have the FSL's best second half record.

The Mets (8-2, 40-36) continue their home stand on Friday when they welcome the Clearwater Threshers to town. First pitch at First Data Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
