St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets exploded for six runs in the third and fourth innings in a 7-2 win over the Daytona Tortugas on Saturday at First Data Field.
While the offense put together an impressive night, it was relief pitcher Matt Pobereyko who shined the brightest. With the Mets leading by four runs in the seventh, Pobereyko entered a bases loaded jam with no outs. He got a shallow fly out and two strikeouts to keep the Tortugas at bay.
Pobereyko finished out the game by pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth. He did not allow a hit in his three innings and he improved to 8 for 8 in save chances.
Jeremy Vasquez delivered the big blow for the Mets at the plate. He ripped a two-out, bases-loaded single in the third inning that turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead.
The Mets scored three more runs in the fourth inning. Anthony Dimino and Mike Paez knocked RBI singles. Gene Cone lifted a RBI sac fly.
The damage was done against Andrew Jordan, who allowed six runs (five earned) over 3.2 innings for Daytona.
Mets starter Gabriel Llanes reached the 100 innings mark this season by pitching six quality innings. He scattered nine hits and gave up two runs. It was his team-leading ninth quality start of the season.
Dimino led the way at the plate by going 3 for 4 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Paez extended his hitting streak to 15 games. He reached base three times.
Ali Sanchez was 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI. Wuilmer Becerra went 2 for 4 with a run.
Blake Tiberi went 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored.
The Mets (16-24, 43-64) and Tortugas (20-22, 57-51) conclude their series at First Data Field on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
