Fire Frogs Hang Tough, Lose in Walk-Off to Miracle

FORT MYERS, Fla. - For the second time in less than a week, the Florida Fire Frogs suffered a dramatic walk-off defeat on the road. The Atlanta Braves' Advanced-A affiliate exchanged zeros going into the ninth inning with the Fort Myers Miracle, before yielding a solo shot with two outs to end the game. The defeat hands Florida its 10th consecutive loss, setting a new team record.

Justin Kelly (3-2) worked out of a jam in the eighth after walking the bases loaded and one out. The southpaw recorded the second out on a fielder's choice by Travis Blankenhorn, erasing Brandon Lopez at home on the play, and retired the side by striking out Taylor Grzelnkowski.

The Bakersfield, Calif. native set down the first two batters of the ninth inning, but gave up a solo home run to Mark Contreras to hand Florida (14-24, 43-61) its sixth walk-off defeat of 2018.

Walter Borkovich made his first professional start on Saturday night for the Fire Frogs. The Michigan State product allowed just three hits and struck out four through five innings of work. The right-handed starter needed just 60 pitches on the night, with 36 going for strikes.

Jared James (1x3, BB) picked up the only hit of the night for the visitors with a two-out single against Andro Cutura in the first. Theknock to right extended the Sacramento native's hitting streak to six games.

Adam Bray (1-0) earned the win for Fort Myers (24-17, 52-57) with two scoreless innings and two punchouts out of the bullpen.

Florida will look to avoid its second consecutive series sweep in the finale of the three-game weekend set against the Fort Myers Miracle on Saturday night at Hammond Stadium. LHP Kyle Muller (4-2, 3.24) takes the mound for the Fire Frogs, while it has yet to be determined who will oppose the Dallas native for the Miracle. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
