Clearwater Threshers News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff twirled two perfect innings in a rehab start, and David Parkinson dealt seven scoreless in his Threshers debut as the pair combined for a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Bradenton Marauders at LECOM Park.
Eickhoff retired all six batters he faced, inducing a pair of strikeouts on low curveballs in the second inning. He exited after his scheduled two frames, having thrown 13 of his 21 pitches for strikes. Eickhoff began a rehab assignment on Saturday as the Phillies right-hander works his way back from a right lat strain suffered in March.
Parkinson took over in the third, and following a leadoff walk, the lefty retired the next eight he faced. He went on to dominate through seven shutout innings in his first appearance as a Threshers, limiting Bradenton (14-25) (49-55) to just two hits and two walks.
Parkinson (1-0) was added to Clearwater on Thursday, after leading the South Atlantic League with a 1.51 ERA in 17 starts for the Lakewood BlueClaws.
Neither team had a hit until two outs in the bottom of the fifth, when Jason Delay blooped a single to center.
The Threshers (25-15) (57-51) were held hitless through the first six innings by Bradenton starter Evan Piechota, before JP Crawford blooped a single to center to lead off the seventh. Crawford finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the fourth game of a rehab stint, as the Phillies infielder works his way back from a fractured left hand.
Henri Lartigue followed Crawford's knock with a line drive single to center, and Edgar Cabral dropped a base hit to left to fill the bases with nobody out. Kyle Martin got Clearwater on the board, lifting a sacrifice fly to left to plate Crawford with the night's only run.
Parkinson cruised through his first six innings, limiting Bradenton to just one hit and a walk, before Jared Oliva lined a one-out single through the right side in the ninth. After a passed ball sent him into scoring position, representing the tying run, Adrian Valerio worked a walk to put the winning run aboard.
The Threshers lefty put a halt to the rally with just one pitch, getting Albert Baur to chop a grounder to Crawford at short, resulting in a game-ending double play.
Clearwater will go for the sweep in the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m., when Alejandro Requena takes the hill against James Marvel. The game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com beginning at 12:45 p.m.
