FORT MYERS, Fla. - Andro Cutura threw seven scoreless innings, and Mark Contreras drilled a bottom of the ninth home run, as the Fort Myers Groupers walked off over the Florida Fire Frogs, 1-0, on Saturday night at Hammond Stadium.
Contreras' bases empty blast came with two outs in the ninth. The Groupers left fielder was 0-3 at the plate prior to the home run.
Cutura walked two and struck out seven in taking a no decision. Adam Bray (1-0) earned his first win of the year with two scoreless innings. He retired all six batters he faced.
Florida's Walter Borkovich, in his first professional start, pitched five scoreless innings. The right-hander collected a no decision. He surrendered three hits.
Justin Kelly (3-2), who walked the bases loaded in the eighth inning but escaped unscathed, suffered the loss after surrendering Contreras' home run in the ninth.
The game was delayed by 1 hour and eight minutes prior to first pitch due to rain.
The Groupers have won five-straight games and six-straight series and will go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon in Fort Myers. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
