St. Lucie Mets News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets clipped the Bradenton Marauders 3-2 on Friday night at LECOM Park.
Wagner Lagrange broke a 1-1 tie with a RBI double in the seventh inning after Hansel Moreno extended the frame with a two-out single.
Blake Tiberi added a huge insurance run in the eighth. He doubled with two outs, stole third base uncontested and scored on a wild pitch from Samuel Reyes. That gave the Mets a 3-1 lead.
The Mets ended up needing that run in the ninth. Bradenton's Mason Martin started the bottom of the ninth with a solo home run, his second solo shot of the game.
Yeizo Campos settled down and eventually struck out Deon Stafford to end the game with the tying run on second base.
Campos pitched the final two innings to get his fourth save of the season and his third save in the last seven days.
Three Mets pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts one day after the Mets struck out the Marauders 12 times.
Starter Austin McGeorge fanned eight and did not issue a walk in his five innings of work. He scattered four hits and the only run he allowed was Martin's leadoff home run in the second inning. McGeorge threw just 66 pitches.
Thomas McIlraith tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh inning to pick up his third win of the season and his second win in his last two appearances.
The Mets scored their first run of the game on a bases loaded walk to Dan Rizzie in the second inning.
Bradenton starter Max Kranick took a no-decision after giving up one run on two hits in 5.1 innings.
The Marauders outhit the Mets 9-5.
The Mets (25-13, 57-47) and Marauders (20-17, 56-47) play the third game of their series at LECOM Park on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
