St. Lucie Mets News Release
A night after being shut down by the Bradenton Marauders, the St. Lucie Mets bounced back and returned the favor Wednesday night at Digital Domain Park. The 6-0 shutout victory secured the Mets 2-1 series victory over the second place Bradenton Marauders.
Robert Carson got the start for the Mets and was lights out. Carson tossed six innings allowing only two hits while striking out seven batters before being lifted with a runner on first base in the seventh inning. Rhiner Cruz relieved Carson going two innings without allowing a single base runner. Stephen Clyne came in for the ninth inning to secure the 6-0 victory.
The Mets jumped on Bradenton starter Casey Erickson early. Juan Torres doubled in two runs in the second inning to kick off the scoring. Torres, who had an outstanding night at the plate, singled in another run in the fourth inning making it a 4-0 game. The Mets last two runs came in the sixth inning thanks to a defensive miscue to cap off the scoring at 6-0.
Stefan Welch and Juan Torres led the Mets offensively. Both had three hits on the night with Torres driving in three runs and scoring once and Welch scoring two runs of his own. The only other Met with a hit on the night was Wilfredo Tovar who also scored a run.
The Mets have an off day Thursday but return to action Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium against the Palm Beach Cardinals. Scott Moviel will get the start for the Mets. Moviel is 2-6 with a 6.83 ERA covering eleven starts on the year. With the first half of the FSL season winding down the Mets look to close things out by getting back to .500 baseball.
