St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 15, 2015) - Three pitchers combined for a shutout as the St. Lucie Mets blanked the Dunedin Blue Jays 2-0 on Wednesday at Tradition Field.

In his St. Lucie debut, Martires Arias held the Blue Jays off the scoreboard for seven innings. He allowed four hits, walked three and struck out five.

Mike Hepple pitched a clean eighth with a strikeout and Jeff Walters pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save.

It was the third shutout for the Mets in their last four games. They beat Lakeland 3-0 on Saturday and 4-0 on Sunday. On Monday, the Mets took a 5-0 lead to the ninth before Lakeland scored three runs.

Behind Miller Diaz, Logan Taylor, Casey Meisner and Arias, the Mets starting rotation has not given up a run in its last 27 innings.

The 2-0 win was the seventh in a row for the Mets, who are now tied for second in the FSL South and just one game out of first place.

The Mets scored both of their runs in the fourth inning off of Conner Greene. Amed Rosario and Phil Evans started the frame with back-to-back singles. Then Lednier Ricardo singled to left field to bring home Rosario.

The Mets loaded the bases later in the inning and Evans scored on a sac fly by Victor Cruzado.

That was plenty for Arias. His biggest trouble spot of the game came in the first when he gave up a leadoff single and walked Richard Urena. He recovered by getting a double play and a strikeout.

L.B. Dantzler started the seventh with a double but Arias got two strikeouts and a fly out to escape trouble.

Evans went 2 for 4. It was his fifth straight two-hit game. Dominic Smith also went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles.

The Mets (47-43, 12-8) are a season-best four games above .500. They will try to stretch their winning streak to eight games on Thursday when they host the Blue Jays again. First pitch on Dollar Night at 6:30 p.m. Fans can enjoy $2 beer, $1 hot dogs, $1 soda and $1 popcorn. The game can be heard on www.stluciemets.com.
