Mets Battle Yankees at Tradition Field

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (May 9, 2014) - Future stars of the Big Apple will be on display at Tradition Field starting Monday.

The St. Lucie Mets host the Tampa Yankees, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the New York Yankees, for a four-game series starting Monday at 6:30 p.m.

The play on the field promises to be exciting, with several of each organization's top prospects on the St. Lucie and Tampa rosters.

St. Lucie boasts center fielder Brandon Nimmo, the No. 6 prospect in the Mets' system according to MLB.com. Dilson Herrera (No. 10) mans second base, while pitchers Steven Matz (No. 11), Domingo Tapia (No. 14), Gabriel Ynoa (No. 15) and Michael Fulmer (No. 16) are all slated to pitch.

The Yankees bring thunder with their lineup. They are the top home run hitting team in the Florida State League with 26 long balls hit through Thursday. Third baseman Eric Jagielo is tied for second in the league with seven homers.

Jagielo is the No. 5 rated prospect in the Yankees farm system. He was drafted 26th overall in 2013 out of Notre Dame and is only the fifth Fighting Irish player ever to be drafted in the first round. Jagielo is the first college position player drafted by the Yankees in the first round since 2001.

The deals at Tradition Field will equal the excitement on the field.

On Monday, all kids 12-and-under get in free.

Tuesday is the first of two Education Days for the Mets, with first pitch coming at 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday is the best food and entertainment deal in town with All You Can Eat and a Seat. For $15 fans get a ticket and can enjoy all you can eat hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, pulled pork sandwiches, macaroni salad, chips, $1 soda and water and $2 beer. Gates open for the buffet at 5:30 p.m. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

The four-game set against the Yankees wraps up with a Thirsty Thursday. Fans are treated to $1 beer (5:30-7:30 p.m.), $1 soda and $1 hot dogs. So far, over 4,900 fans have come out for the Mets first two Thirsty Thursdays of the season.
