VIERA, Fla. (May 12, 2014) - Matt Tomshaw posted six shutout innings to lead the Fort Myers Miracle to an 8-2 win over the Brevard County Manatees on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Tomshaw (2-1) allowed just five hits with two walks and a pair of strikeouts. In three starts since being moved into the rotation, Tomshaw has given up just one run in 16 innings; an earned run average of 0.56.

The Miracle scored a pair of runs in the second inning off Brevard County starter Tyler Wagner. Travis Harrison got on base to begin the inning after a fielding error by third baseman Nicky Delmonico. Wagner then struck out both Adam Brett Walker and Tyler Grimes.

With two out, Stuart Turner coaxed a walk. Jonathan Murphy then sliced a single into right field to bring in Harrison. Aderling Mejia followed with a high chopper that shortstop Orlando Arcia could not handle. Mejia reached on an infield hit and picked up an RBI when Turner crossed home plate.

Wagner exited in the sixth and Manatees reliever Michael Strong ran into trouble. Issuing a pair of walks to Harrison and Walker, Tyler Grimes doubled into right field bringing in a run. Manatees second baseman Yadiel Rivera's throw from the cut off sailed away from catcher Cameron Garfield and Walker scored on the error, 4-0.

Then, Turner launched his first home run in the Florida State League to put the Miracle up 6-0. On a 2-1 pitch from Strong, Turner went opposite field over the right field fence for a two-run shot.

Mejia added to the lead in the eighth inning. After a one-out double from Murphy off Manatees reliever Chad Pierce, Mejia sent a first pitch into the palm trees beyond the wall in right field. The home run for Mejia was his first of the season and in the FSL.

With the Miracle leading 8-0, the Manatees got on the board with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth by Tyrone Taylor off Miracle reliever Mason Melotakis.

Melotakis pitched two innings only allowing the two runs on the Taylor long ball. Brian Gilbert made his first appearance since being activated off the disabled list and pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Miracle (21-16) return to Space Coast Stadium on Tuesday evening for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch against the Manatees (20-16). Fans can listen to every play on www.miraclebaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Brice Zimmerman. The Head Quarters pregame show begins at 6:10 p.m.
