Time To Look Ahead: The Chicago Fire defeated the Columbus Crew Sunday afternoon, 2-1, to take the remaining berth for the upcoming 2002 MLS Cup playoffs. The victory eliminated the MetroStars from the playoffs for the third time in seven years of the club's existence.

The players will be off until Monday, October 7. They will then regroup for off-season training, with the possibility of playing an exhibition in late October. Further details on the possible exhibition are not available at this time.

The MetroStars completed the 2002 MLS season with an 11-15-2 record for 35 points. Rodrigo Faria finished as the team's leading scorer with 29 points (12G, 5A).

Numbers of Note: Tim Howard led all goalkeepers for the second straight season in saves (140), catch punches (115), and save average (5.12)...Finished with best road record (7-7) in MLS...Andy Williams (2G, 15A, 19 pts) and Rodrigo Faria (12G, 5A, 29 pts.) finished with career highs in points...Williams also finished second in MLS in fouls suffered (87)...Ted Chronopoulos finished with a career high six assists (includes two w/New England)...Mamadou Diallo, who tallied 11 goals and four assists in 17 games with the MetroStars, led the league in offsides calls (54).

Ramos Ends Pro Career: Tab Ramos, the last remaining original MetroStar, completed his seven-year MLS career this past Saturday in New England. He finished with 9,011 career minutes, 112 games played, eight goals, and 36 assists for 52 points.
