Sporting Kansas City News Release

The Kansas City Wizards tied the Colorado Rapids 1-1 on Friday night to secure a berth in the postseason, but they did not learn their opponent until Sunday afternoon. The Wizards had to wait until the Chicago Fire disposed of the Columbus Crew on Sunday before they could make reservations for their first round match in the playoffs.

The eighth seed Wizards (9-10-9, 36 points) will face Western Conference Champion and Supporters Shield winner Los Angeles Galaxy (16-9-3, 51 points) to open the 2001 playoffs. Kansas City will travel to Los Angeles on Wednesday, September 25th for Game One of the "first-to-five-points" series. The match will kickoff at 9:30 p.m. CT from the Rose Bowl and will be broadcast live on Metro Sports.

The two sides will return to Kansas City for Game Two at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, September 28th. The match will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. CT.

Tickets for the Wizards home playoff game are available by calling TicketMaster at 816-931-3330 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Season Ticket Holders may use "Special Game D" tickets for the playoff match and any unused season tickets and vouchers will also be accepted. Groups of 20 or more can receive a discount on tickets by calling the Wizards office at 816-920-9300. During Saturday's game, all fans may redeem their ticket stub for a free slice of Papa John's Pizza at concession stands throughout Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas City and Los Angeles will meet for the third time in their playoff history, the last meeting coming in 2000. That memorable series culminated in the Wizards defeating the Galaxy on Miklos Molnar's "golden goal" in the series tiebreaker, propelling the Wizards into the 2000 MLS Cup Championship game. The first meeting between these two rivals came in the inaugural 1996 season when the Wizards were swept in two games by the Galaxy in the Western Conference Finals.
