Memphis Hustle Comeback to Sink Salt Lake City Stars

ORLANDO - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the Memphis Hustle 104-96 on Monday.

The Stars came out hot early, leading by 10 at the end of the first quarter and pushing the advantage to as much as 16 in the second quarter. The Hustle cut the deficit to 10 by halftime and used a big third quarter to tie things up at 72 entering the final period. The two teams were tied at 88 midway through the fourth quarter before Memphis put together a 16-4 run down the stretch to put the game out of reach for the Stars.

Mavericks two-way player Tyler Bey led the Stars in scoring for the second time since joining the team with a game-high 22. Trevon Bluiett logged his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Yogi Ferrell added 11 points and has scored in double-digits in all four Stars games this season.

Memphis was led by two players with ties to Utah. David Stockton, son of Jazz great John Stockton, led the Hustle with 18 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Former Utah State and Bountiful High School star Sam Merrill had 17 points and eight rebounds. Merrill finished the game 5-for-10 from deep. Memphis also got 17 points from Tyrell Terry and a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double from Freddie Gillespie.

After a strong first half the Stars struggled to shoot the ball in the second half, going 16-45 (35.6%) from the floor, including 3-for-17 (17.6%) from deep. Overall, the Stars shot just 26.5% from distance during the game.

Salt Lake City will be back on the court tomorrow as the Stars play the Agua Caliente Clippers (Los Angeles Clippers affiliate). The game tips off at 1:30 p.m. (MT) and is available to be streamed on ESPN+.
