
Porter Jr. and Vipers Outlast Knicks in Morning Showdown

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2-2) defeated the Westchester Knicks (2-2) 135-117 on Monday morning game at the HP Field House. Houston Rockets assignee Kevin Porter Jr. posted 32 points (career-high), seven rebounds, nine assists (career-high) and two steals.
Brodric Thomas recorded a double-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds, dishing out five assists, two steals and two blocks. Four additional Vipers players scored in the double figures: Rockets assignee KJ Martin (21 PTS, 12 REB, 3 AST), Shawn Occeus (10 PTS, 3 REB, 5 AST, 2 STL).
From off the bench, Armoni Brooks scored 22 points (eight from the field, six from beyond the arc) and contributed two assists. Josh Reaves racked up 18 points, eight rebounds.
RGV trailed early on in the first frame of the matchup, but the Vipers outrebounded the Knicks and earned a two-point lead going into the second, 29-27.
Houston Rockets assignee Kevin Porter Jr. (19 pts) and Brodric Thomas' (13 pts) momentum secured a 65-56 lead for the Vipers in the second quarter. With 1:45 left on the clock, Thomas made the steal and slammed it home to secure the lead for RGV going into the half.
In the third frame of the matchup, the Vipers forced the Knicks to six turnovers while RGV managed to secure five steals and four blocks in a 100-86 lead. RGV earned the biggest lead in the third, 19-0.
The Vipers continued to force the Knicks to turnover the ball as they totaled five more in the last quarter of the game securing the win.
RGV shot 55.6% from the field and 45.0% from beyond the arc. Defensively, the Vipers recorded 38 of their 48 rebounds, totaled 10 steals and six rebounds.
For the Knicks, Myles Powell scored a team-high of 31 points (10-14 FG, 5-5 3PT), while contributing six assists and two steals. Simisola Shittu recorded a double-double for the Knicks with 18 points, 10 rebounds.
