Memphis cools Oklahoma's bats
April 7, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release
On a night when wind chills hovered in the 30's, four Memphis pitchers were able to cool off the RedHawks' bats as the Redbirds beat Oklahoma 4-0 Friday at AutoZone Park. The first series of the season is even at 1-1.
Right-hander Mike Smith (1-0) earned the win by going the first six innings, allowing all four RedHawk hits. He was followed by Mark Worrell, Dennis Dove and Andy Cavazos.
The RedHawks actually drew more walks (five) than hits (four), but Oklahoma had only three runners reach second base. Memphis collected eight hits.
In his Triple-A debut and his third game above Class A, Oklahoma right-hander Doug Mathis allowed three runs in the first inning on a two-run Tagg Bozied triple and a Rick Ankiel RBI single. Nick Stavinoha hit a solo homer in the third to complete the scoring.
Ramon Vazquez went 2-for-3 with a double for the RedHawks. Right-hander Alfredo Simon makes his RedHawks debut Saturday against lefty Chris Narveson. Game time is 6:10 CDT and the broadcast can be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 and the RedHawks radio network.
