Memphis 901 FC News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Memphis 901 FC heads to North Carolina tomorrow night to face Charlotte Independence at 6:00 p.m. (CT), before the club returns to The Bluff City to play four of its next five matches in Memphis.
The match will be televised locally on CW30 Memphis and available nationally on ESPN+.
Memphis (2-7-5, 11 pts) is coming off a friendly against Liga MX powerhouse C.F. Pachuca last Saturday, in which 8,351 fans packed AutoZone Park to witness history. 901 FC will be looking to continue its stretch of offense that has seen 14 goals in seven competitions since May, which is more than double the club's output through the first nine matches of the season (6).
Earlier in the week, 901 FC acquired prolific goal-scorer Brandon Allen from Tampa Bay Rowdies.
The forward has scored 40 goals in the past three USL regular seasons and USL Cup Playoffs, making him the second-highest scorer in the league since the start of the 2016 season. Allen led New York Red Bulls II to a USL Cup title in 2016, scoring 15 goals on the season and a hat-trick in the USL Cup Final en route to Final MVP honors.
That season Allen led the league with 19 assists in addition to ranking second with the 15 goals, and he was named 2016 USL Rookie of the Year and All-League First Team for his efforts.
This is the first match against Charlotte (2-7-7, 13 pts) in Memphis' history. Charlotte recently jumped 901 FC in the Eastern Conference standings and sits two points above Memphis but has played two more matches. On Charlotte's roster is Niki Jackson, a Memphian who scored three goals in the "Soccer Showdown" exhibition match between Tulsa Roughnecks FC and the Colorado Rapids at AutoZone Park on Sept. 1, 2018. Jackson has appeared in eight matches for Charlotte and has a goal to his credit.
After tomorrow's match at Charlotte, the club returns to AutoZone Park next Saturday, July 6, for a Downtown Memphis showdown with Hartford Athletic. The month of July has four home matches for 901 FC.
