Memphis 901 FC Brings Back 2020 Defender Rece Buckmaster

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis 901 FC today announced the signing of former MLS and 901 FC defender Rece Buckmaster pending league and federation approval.

"I'm really excited to get down there and meet the guys and coaches and get to work!" Buckmaster said. "Big things this year and I'm super excited to get started!"

After playing every minute for Memphis following his signing in the shortened 2020 season, Buckmaster represented his native Indiana with the Indy Eleven in 2021. Buckmaster made 23 appearances with the Eleven last season.

"Rece played every minute for us in 2020 and is back to be even better in 2022," Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. "He is one of the best lock-down defenders in all of USL and will provide strength and toughness moving us forward.

"Rece has the ability to be a standout performer in USL and we believe he can take his game to another level here in Memphis," Pirmann added. "He is also a high-character person that will lead his teammates on and off the pitch."

Buckmaster spent four years at Indiana University where the defender 82 appearances and scored five goals from 2015 to 2018. Following his collegiate career, Buckmaster was drafted 32nd overall by the New York Red Bulls in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. Buckmaster would go on to make 18 appearances for New York Red Bulls II in the USL Championship and later seven appearances for the first team, including the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Signing with Memphis 901 FC ahead of the 2020 USL Championship season, Buckmaster recorded a goal and pair of assists-both single-season records for the defender.
