Mejia Powers Redbirds to 3-2 Victory in Matinee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds won their second straight over the visiting Oklahoma City Dodgers, riding a three-run rally for a 3-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds are 5-1 on their current homestand, and have won eight of their last 10 games overall to sit 3.5 games behind division-leading Round Rock in the PCL American Southern Division.

Memphis' three-run rally was highlighted by Alex Mejia's (2-for-4) third home run of the season, a go-ahead, two-run shot to right off Oklahoma City starter Eric Stults (1-1) in the fifth. Memphis later added an insurance run later in the frame that proved to be the difference maker, as first baseman Ed Easley (1-for-4) hit an infield RBI groundout to score pitcher Tyler Lyons.

Lyons (7-5) hurled his eighth quality start in the victory, surrendering two runs on four hits in seven innings of work. The southpaw also struck out two and walked none.

Both Dodgers runs came on solo home runs. Andy Wilkins went yard in the fourth for a 1-0 Oklahoma City lead, his team-leading 14th of the season and second in as many days. In the seventh, Kyle Jensen hit a solo shot that trimmed the Redbirds lead to 3-2.

In his first rehab appearance with the Redbirds, Cardinals rehabbing right-hander Jordan Walden pitched 2/3 of a scoreless inning, striking out one and allowing one hit on 15 pitches (nine for strikes).

Right-hander Mitch Harris retired the final four batters to convert his third save of the season.

Memphis and Oklahoma City continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Thursday night as the Redbirds celebrate College Night with $5 tickets for college students and $2 domestic drafts at the left field bar.

Also on Thursday night, 1,500 fans are sure to "GO CRAZY" over receiving their very own one-of-a-kind St. Louis Cardinals bobblehead of the iconic Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith. Gates open at 6pm.
