Mississippi Braves News Release

Mobile, AL - The Mississippi Braves broke a tie game in the eighth and held on for a 5-4 victory over the Mobile BayBears on Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Trailing 3-0 in the sixth, Mycal Jones started the Braves comeback, plating two with a bases-loaded single. Then in the seventh, Willie Cabrera reached on a throwing error to set up Ernesto Mejia's 18th home run of the year, a two-run shot to take a 4-3 lead.

The home run pulled Mejia to within one of Matt Esquivel's Mississippi Braves single season record of 19, set in 2007.

The lead didn't last long, as the BayBears (30-15, 68-47) tied it up in the seventh, but Braeden Schlehuber scored Ed Lucas on an RBI single to give the Braves (22-24, 47-69) the lead for good.

Benino Pruneda pitched a solid two innings for his eighth save of the year. He got veteran Daryle Ward to fly out to center for the final out, stranding tying run Jake Elmore at third base to seal the Braves' win.

Chris Cody took a no-decision in the start for the Braves, allowing three runs on just six hits in five innings. Rowdy Hardy earned the win in relief, his third of the year. Clay Zavada suffered his second loss of the season for Mobile.

The Braves and BayBears meet in game two of a five game set on Thursday night at 7:05 PM CDT. Mississippi sends right-hander Zeke Spruill against Mobile's right-hander Jarrod Parker.
