
Meggs Gets Snappers out of Skid in 2-1 Win

Beloit, WI - The bat of Jack Meggs and the combined Snappers pitching aided a Beloit Snappers (52-48) in their 2-1 win over the Kane County Cougars (50-51) Thursday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.
Meggs delivered in his first two at bats to get the scoring started. In his first at bat in the second inning, he hit a sac fly to left to plate Jordan Devencenzi and make it 1-0 Snappers.
In his next at bat in the fourth, he launched a solo homer over the right field wall to make it 2-0. It was his fifth home run of the season and his first homer in his last 130 at bats.
Both teams struggled offensively, combining for eight total hits. The Cougars didn't get their run until the ninth inning off reliever Nick Highberger. Ryan Grotjohn grounded out to Ryan Gridley for the second out, scoring Ernie De La Trinidad who led off the inning with a double to make the score 2-1.
Snappers starter Mitchell Jordan earned his fourth win of the season and his seventh quality start of the season, going six innings and allowing two hits and zero runs.
Jesus Zambrano got a hold in two scoreless innings pitched in relief of Jordan. Zambrano extended his consecutive scoreless inning streak to 17.2 innings.

Also providing a big presence was the defense of Snappers catcher Jordan Devencenzi. Devencenzi threw out two Cougars attempting to steal, while picking off two runners at first base.
The Snappers run in the second inning snapped 24.2 consecutive scoreless innings by the Snappers offense. The streak dated back to their 2-1 loss on July 22nd spanned over four games.
Austin Beck's double in his first at bat in the first inning was the Snappers first extra-base hit in their last three games. It was the only extra-base hit in the game other than Meggs' homer.
The Snappers have now won 15 of their last 20 games and are 33-13 when they score first.
The Snappers will wrap up this three game series on Friday at a 6:30 start time. Toeing the rubber to start for the Snappers will be left-hander Jared Poché (7-6, 4.10). For the Cougars, they will send out right-hander Tyler Keele (0-1, 6.00).
