Lincoln Stars News Release
Lincoln, Neb. - Josef Korenar was named to join the Czech Republic at the World Junior A Challenge from Dec. 11 - 17 in Bonnyville, Alberta.
Korenar will be one of four Stars participating in the tournament as Ethen Frank, Alex Green and Cayden Primeau will play for the U.S. Junior Select Team. Stars coach Chris Hartsburg will serve as an assistant coach for the U.S.
"Josef has earned this opportunity through his play in Lincoln," Stars GM Jon Hull said. "Anytime a player can be chosen to represent his country we believe it is positive for the organization and the player."
In his first USHL season, Korenar leads the league with a .941 save percentage and has gone 4-4-1 with a 1.83 goals against average. He previously played for the Czech Republic at the 2016 U18 World Championship and the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup. The 6'1" 175 pound goalie is uncommitted.
With Primeau and Korenar representing their respective countries, the Stars are seeking replacement goalies.
"We have to evaluate if there is a goalie out there that makes sense to bring in," Hull said. "We are open to exploring all avenues."
