Motor City Mechanics News Release
FLINT, MI--The Motor City Mechanics take over first place in the Central Division after scoring five goals in the first period to beat the cross state rival Flint Generals tonight 6-4 at Perani's Hockey World Arena in Flint, Michigan.
The first period began with five straight goals when Konstantin Kalmikov (3) started the scoring at 7:03. Scott Dobben (2), Brent Gretzky (1, first as a Mechanic), Matt Smith (3, PPG) and Greg Bullock (1, PPG) also lit the lamp in the first and the Mechanics as a team went two for six on the power play through 20 minutes of play.
The only goal scored in the second was by Flints', Leo Thomas, which made the score at the end of two periods 5-1.
The third period belonged to the Generals, as they would make the game interesting by scoring three unanswered goals to cut the lead to just one at 5-4. However, Motor City's Adam Edinger (3) found an empty net with five seconds left to seal the game at 6-4.
On the evenings game nine players tallied points for the Mechanics. Smith (1 goal, 1 assist), Edinger (1 goal), Mike Ramsay (1 assist), Dobben (1 goal), Chris Gignac (1 assist), Kalmikov (1 goal), Peter Szabo (1 assist), Bullock (1 goal, 3 assists) and Brent Gretzky (1 goal, 3 assists). Rod Branch made 27 saves for his third win of the season and recorded his 20th win in his last 23 starts.
