Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL) fell by a score of 6-2 to the Danbury Trashers Sunday night in the final game of their three-game road trip.
The Vipers found themselves behind Danbury early, allowing six goals to the Trashers before getting themselves on the board. Steve Crusco wiped away Sylvain Daigle's shutout midway through the second period, scoring off a pass from D-man Brano Kvetan at the 10:05 mark. Vipers netminder Shawn Conchafter, who replaced starter Jamie Hodson with 5:26 remaining in the first period, was spotless in the net for Roanoke for the remainder of the game.
The Vipers offense, however, was unable to turn it up, failing to convert on nine of the 10 power play chances given to them via the physical play of the Trashers. Roanoke was able to put just one more point on the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. That point came courtesy of rookie L.P. Martin on an assist from Nathan Riddell at 13:45 of the third period. Martin's goal would be the only power play goal the Vipers were able to score in the match.
The Vipers fall to below the .500 mark for the first time this season at 2-3-0, but look to improve back to a winning record next weekend against the Richmond RiverDogs. The 'Dogs will travel cross-state to play the Vipers on Friday and Saturday, November 4th and 5th at the Roanoke Civic Center. The puck will drop at 7:35p.m. EST each night.
