FLINT, MI-Behind four goals from Leo Thomas the Flint Generals defeat the Motor City Mechanics 9-4 tonight at the Perani Arena and Event Center.
Leo Thomas got two of his four in the first 2:24 of the first period. Then Vlad Serov caught fire and netted a natural hat-trick just seven minutes later. The first was at 3:57, then again at 4:32 and finally he completed the trick at 9:43. Serov now has five goals in the past two games.
After the Generals tied the game at 3-3 they would go onto score six unanswered goals. With a 9-3 deficit the Mechanics would net one last goal as Matt Smith netted his 19th goal of the season.
Rod Branch made his 57th start in net making 17 saves before being replaced by backup Bill Ruggiero midway through the second period. Ruggiero made 6 saves on 9 shots.
The Mechanics look to avenge the loss tomorrow as they face the Generals again at the Great Lakes Sports City Superior Arena in Fraser, game time is 5:00 PM.
