Rockford outlasts Adirondack, 4-2

Glens Falls, NY- The power play had been ailing for the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night, but it came through in the end as they topped the Adirondack Frostbite 4-2 at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, NY. The Hogs scored two power-play goals in the third period to pull out the win.

Rockford opened the scoring at 3:27 of the opening frame when center Preston Mizzi deflected in a perfect set-up pass from winger Olivier Proulx. The lead was extended to 2-0 later in the frame after rookie defenseman Joe Markusen blew a rebound past Frostbite goalie Derek Gustafson at 9:00 for his second goal of the season.

Adirondack cut the lead in half in the second with a power-play goal. Off the face-off, Frank Bakrlik fired a shot past Hogs goalie Michel Robinson at 13:56 to make the score 2-1. The Frostbite tied the contest in the third period with another goal while on the advantage when rookie winger Kevin Watters slipped one past Robinson at 2:40.

After going 0-for-6 on the power-play, Rockford would net goals on two of its next four advantages to claim the win. The first was hammered home by Jason Notermann at 11:37 of the final period giving Rockford the 3-2 lead. Then with an empty net, veteran winger Rob Voltera slapped home the Hogs final tally at 19:00 to seal the deal for Rockford.

Robinson finished the contest with 21 saves to earn the win while Gustafson turned away 21 in the loss. The IceHogs finished 2-for-10 on the power-play while the Frostbite were 2-for-5. Winger Greg Barber had his 12-game point streak, which tied a club-record, come to an end.

Next Home Game: Friday, March 17 vs. Richmond RiverDogs. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive IceHogs poster #5 courtesy of Medicine Man, Johnson Press, Pepsi, and Rockford Register Star. It's also the annual airplane toss. A lucky fan will win a trip to Las Vegas for two from Wheels by RT and Allegiant Air.

Saturday, March 18 vs. Adirondack Frostbite. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 kids 12-and under will receive a replica youth IceHogs jersey from Ameriprise Financial. Also, Molly McMaster will suit up for the IceHogs and become the first female skater to play for the IceHogs as part of the "UHL Cross Checks Colon Cancer" promotion.
