Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

ROANOKE, VA - Glenn Ridler picked up right where he left off tonight at the Roanoke Civic Center after his tremendous performance in his Viper debut Friday night, making 29 saves on 32 RiverDogs shots to lead the Vipers to their first win in nine games.

Jan Jas scored first for the Vipers off an assist from Gray Shaneberger at 2:20 of the first period. Mike Oliveira, who has been dominant against Vipers goaltending this season, responded with two in a row at 6:46 of the first period and 2:27 of the second period. Todd Grant furthered the RiverDogs lead with a goal at 5:49 of the second as the crowd of 1989 at the Roanoke Civic Center became silent.

Travis Smith netted a shot on a Vipers power play off assists from David Beauregard and Alex Jerofejevs at 16:46 of the period as the Vipers eased closer to blanking the scoreboard. The goal was Smith's first of the season, and was successful in rejuvenating both the Vipers and the Roanoke fans, of whom the workhorse D-man is a favorite.

New Viper forward Sean Starke started off the third period with a bang, scoring at 2:03 with the help of Matt Elich and Beauregard to tie the game at three apiece. Jas scored his second of then night off assists from Jonathan Charette and Shaneberger at 6:48 to give the Vipers the lead. Elich would put the win in the bag for Roanoke Valley with an unassisted goal at 16:01, which made the score 6-3, where it would remain until the final buzzer.

The Vipers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 5:05p.m. to finish up their four-game homestand against the Rockford IceHogs! Sunday is Guns and Hoses Night at the Roanoke Civic Center.
