Mechanics clinch first ever playoff berth with 6-1 win

FRASER, MI-For the first time in franchise history the Mechanics are in the playoffs after knocking off the Port Huron Flags tonight in front of 2,353 fans at the Great Lakes Sports City.

The Mechanics needed one win to clinch a playoff berth; win they did as they reeled off two, three goal outbursts. The first four goals came in the first period. After the first three goals the Flags netted their lone goal which was followed by another Mechanic goal.

After all was said and done six players finished the night with multiple point games. Tom Kotsopoulos (1 goal, 1 assist), Adam Edinger (2 assists), Kris Vernarsky (1 goal, 2 assists), Peter Szabo (1 goal, 2 assists), Greg Bullock (1 goal, 3 assists) and Brent Gretzky (1 goal, 1 assist).

Rod Branch made his 72nd appearance and made 29 saves while earning his 38th win. Backup Bill Ruggiero saw some action as well late in the third period. With the game in hand Ruggiero replaced Branch and looked solid making 4 saves on 4 shots.
