West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
DAYTON, OH - The West Michigan Whitecaps pitching staff struggled to hold down an impressive offense in a 7-3 loss to the Dayton Dragons on Wednesday night at Day Air Ballpark.
Outfielder Parker Meadows, who collected the Midwest League Player of the Week award on Monday, went 2-for-4 with a walk, run scored, and an RBI in a losing cause. The 'Caps losing streak falls to a season-high three games, but West Michigan's record remains over .500 at 6-5.
After giving up a run in the first, the Whitecaps took control with a three-run second inning. A run-scoring single from Meadows preceded a two-run single for Wenceel Perez to take a 3-1 lead. The Dragons scored six unanswered runs from that point on as Dayton countered with a three-run frame of their own in the third. A run-scoring single from Elly De la Cruz and RBI-double by Mat Nelson highlighted the Dragons comeback. Dayton's final two runs came on a pair of solo home runs by Jose Torres in the fifth and seventh innings. In the victory, the second baseman finished 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Dayton improves to 8-3 with the win, while the Whitecaps fall to 6-5. Frainger Aranguren (3-0) collects his third win for Dayton with two scoreless innings, while Carlos Guzman (1-1) takes his first loss allowing five Dragons runs in three innings. Bryant Packard and Jake Holton also enjoyed multi-hit performances in a losing cause.
