Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders and American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, announce the Manitoba Moose of the AHL has reassigned defenseman Ryan McGinnis.
With Jon Landry and Wes O'Neill on loan to the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Mitch Versteeg on the injured reserve, the K-Wings have helped fill the void at the blue line with the addition of McGinnis. The native of Flint, Michigan started the season in the AHL with the Manitoba, where he earned no points and 8 minutes in penalties in eight games.
Last season, McGinnis played in 47 games with the K-Wings before finishing the year with the Moose. With Kalamazoo, McGinnis racked up 33 points (5 goals, 28 assists) in the regular season. Last season with Manitoba, McGinnis played in eight regular season contests and four postseason games and earned an assist for the Moose in the playoffs.
A former 6th round (184th overall) selection in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft for the Los Angeles Kings, McGinnis spent five seasons playing junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. Three years ago, McGinnis completed his fifth and final season of junior hockey, playing his first season for the Oshawa Generals, where he recorded 48 points (6 goals, 42 assists) and helped the Generals advance to the Conference Finals in the OHL playoffs.
Before turning pro, McGinnis spent the four previous years of his junior career with the Plymouth Whalers. McGinnis helped the Whalers capture the 2007 OHL Championship and were runners-up in the Memorial Cup Finals.
The K-Wings will return home to Wings Stadium tonight, Thursday, November 25th for a 7:30 p.m. encounter versus the Greenville Road Warriors during the first-ever Old Burdick's Thanksgiving Night Game.
