Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - In a Wednesday night match-up at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, the Victoria Salmon Kings took on the Idaho Steelheads in the first of a three-game set. The Salmon Kings gave David Shantz the start in net, while the Steelheads went with Mike Zacharias.
Victoria opened the scoring at 15:26 of the first on the power play. Garth Murray recorded his first as a Salmon King after capitalizing on the rebound in the slot off PJ Atherton's initial point shot. The Salmon Kings took their 1-0 lead into the second period.
Idaho's John-Scott Dickson had the lone goal of the second at 19:36 to knot the score at 1-1. Dickson received a pass in the slot from Kael Mouillierat and shot it past Shantz high-glove side to score his third tally of the year. The teams took to the second intermission in their 1-1 tie.
The Steelheads took the lead at 11:25 after an odd bounce off the face-off had the puck beat Shantz. The un-assisted goal was credited to Marty Flichel for his seventh of the season. Victoria pulled Shantz with a minute left in the game for an extra attacker, but could not score the equalizing goal. Steelheads 2 Salmon Kings 1.
Victoria went 1/425.0% on the power play, while Idaho was 0/300.0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Steelheads 29-23.
