April 2, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

The Dayton Bombers have announced that the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled right wing Kent McDonell (pronounced mac-doh-NEHL) from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League today. McDonell is expected to make his NHL debut tonight when the Jackets host the Minnesota Wild and, therefore, become the first-ever Dayton Bomber to play a game with the Blue Jackets.

McDonell, 24, has tallied career-highs in goals, assists and points with 14-24-38 and 93 penalty minutes in 72 games with the Crunch this season. He ranks third on the club in scoring and has added six power play goals, three shorthanded and three game-winning tallies. He has registered 35-40-75 and 251 penalty minutes in 175 career AHL games with the Crunch since the 2000-01 season.

He was acquired by Columbus from Detroit for a sixth round pick in the 2003 Entry Draft on Aug. 16, 2000. Originally Carolina's ninth pick, 225th overall, in the 1997 Entry Draft, he re-entered the Draft in 1999 and was selected by the Red Wings with their third pick, 181st overall, that year. In four seasons of major junior hockey, he collected 101-101-202 and 343 penalty minutes in 236 games with Guelph of the Ontario Hockey League from 1996-00.

In the 2000-2001 season, he split time with both Syracuse and the Bombers. He was eighth on the Bombers in goals (16) despite only playing 28 games. Five of his goals in Dayton came on the power play, with one coming shorthanded.. McDonell is expected to become the 15th different Bomber to play in the NHL tonight and the 214th ECHL graduate to advance to "The Show."

2003-2004 season tickets as well as corporate marketing packages are available through the Dayton Bombers' office by calling (937) 775-4747.
