McDonald Named Dodgers Co-Pitcher of the Month for July

Jacksonville, Fla. - Suns right-hand starting pitcher James McDonald has been named the Los Angeles Dodgers Minor League Co-Pitcher of the Month for July, along with High-A Inland Empire reliever Jesus Rodriguez.
In four starts during the month of July, McDonald went 3-1 with a 1.19 ERA, 7 walks and 28 strikeouts. His longest outing during the month was seven innings at Carolina on July 29, in which he scattered four hits, including a solo homerun, with two walks and while striking out 11 batters, the most of any Suns pitcher during 2007.
McDonald allowed only three earned runs during the month, all coming off of solo homeruns.
The Long Beach, Calif. native was promoted to Jacksonville from High-A Inland Empire on July 5, after leading the California League in strikeouts (104) at the time of his departure. McDonald was drafted in the 11th round of the 2002 first year player draft out of Golden West (Calif.) Junior College.
Jesus Rodriguez split the July honors with McDonald after pitching in relief during eight games in the month with the Inland Empire 66ers, recording two saves in two opportunities. Rodriguez posted a 2.16 ERA with 4 walks and 12 strikeouts during July.
McDonald and the rest of the Suns are on the road at Montgomery for a crucial five-game series against the Biscuits. The team returns to the Baseball Grounds on Monday, August 20 to host the Mississippi Braves.
