FARGO, N.D. - Right-hander Cody McAllister (8-4) threw seven strong innings for the Kansas City T-Bones (42-48) tonight as they defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (52-37), 5-2, at Newman Outdoor Field. The Schaumburg Flyers (40-50) also won tonight, making the T-Bones magic number to clinch a playoff berth five.
McAllister and Fargo started Matt Mossey (4-2) matched zeros through the first three innings before Kansas City struck for two runs on a one-out double by Luis Terrero in the fourth. Mossey retired the first nine batters he faced tonight before surrendering consecutive singles to begin the frame.
The T-Bones plated their final three runs in the seventh, scoring the first two on a two-run double by Craig Hurba. Mossey allowed the first four batters in the inning to reach before leaving in favor of Yosandy Ibanez. Mossey was charged with five runs on six hits in six-plus innings in the loss.
McAllister was stellar in his outing, holding Fargo hitless until Jeremiah Piepkorn began the fifth inning with a single. Two innings later, Piepkorn led off the seventh with a home run to push the score to 5-1. McAllister finished the frame and surrendered back-to-back singles to start the eighth before giving way to Payton Tweddale. The RedHawks scored their final run two batters later on a wild pitch by the left-hander to cap the score at 5-2.
Tweddale induced two outs before Justin James entered and forced a groundout from Ruben Salazar to end the inning. McAllister earned the victory after allowing two runs on four hits over seven-plus innings. He struck out eight in the contest.
Nate Cotton threw a perfect ninth to secure his 10th save for Kansas City.
Dustin Bolton (6-5, 4.91) takes the mound tomorrow night as the T-Bones look to continue their playoff push against Jeff Icenogle (3-1, 4.58) and Fargo. First pitch is set for 7:00.
