
Goldeyes Survive Four Lead Changes

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA-The Winnipeg Goldeyes (52-39) scored three runs in the 4th inning to take a 7-6 lead in a game they won 12-7 over the Joliet JackHammers (31-59) before 6,487 fans at Canwest Park on Wednesday night.
Joliet pushed across a run in the 1st inning against Winnipeg RHP Andrew Cruse. CF Adam Klein (2-5) singled and stole second base. A single by 2B Rob Dahlberg (3-4) moved Klein to third base.
SS Kevin Rios (2-4) hit an RBI single to score Klein for a 1-0 Joliet lead.
Winnipeg scored two runs in the 2nd inning against JackHammers RHP Jason Novak. C Brent Metheny (4-4) reached base on a one-out single and moved to second base on a walk by 1B Cody Ehlers (3-4). 2B Mark Minicozzi (3-4) doubled to score Metheny.
CF Cory Patton (3-4) lined a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Ehlers for a 2-1 lead.
The JackHammers scored two runs in the 3rd inning to take a 3-2 lead. Klein led off the inning by reaching base on a throwing error by Winnipeg 1B Cody Ehlers. A single by Dahlberg moved Ehlers to second base. Rios laid down a sacrifice bunt that was misplayed by Winnipeg C Brent Metheny.
The bases were loaded for 1B Freddie Thon (2-5), who grounded into a double play. Klein scored to tie the game at 2-2.
RF Tim Alberts (1-4) lined an RBI single to score Dahlberg for a 3-2 Joliet lead.
The Goldeyes tied the game in the 3rd inning at 3-3 on a leadoff solo home run by DH Juan Diaz (1-3).
The JackHammers scored two runs in the 4th inning to take a 5-3 lead. LF Eric Scriven (0-3) worked a two-out walk and moved to third base on a double by Klein. Dahlberg smacked a two-run single to score Scriven and Klein for a two-run Joliet advantage.
The Goldeyes scored a run in their half of the 4th inning on an RBI single by 2B Mark Minicozzi. Metheny reached base on a single and moved to second base on a wild pitch. A groundout by Ehlers moved Metheny to third base before Minicozzi drove in Metheny to make it 5-4.
Joliet added a run in the 5th inning to make it 6-4. 3B Wally Backman, Jr. (0-3) walked with two outs in the inning and went to second base on a single by DH Mike Garcia (1-4). C Christian Lopez (1-4) hit an RBI single to bring home Backman, Jr.
The Goldeyes scored three runs in the 5th inning to take a 7-6 lead. 3B Vince Harrison (3-5) led off the inning with a single and moved to second base on a single by Metheny. An RBI single by Ehlers scored Harrison to make it 6-5 Joliet.
Patton had the big hit with a two-run double to score Metheny and Ehlers and give the Goldeyes the one-run lead.
The Goldeyes tacked on three more runs in the 6th inning thanks to a couple of Joliet errors to take a 10-6 lead.
In the 8th inning against Joliet RHP Drew Shetrone, the Goldeyes added two more runs on a two-run double by Patton. He finished with six RBI for the Goldeyes.
The JackHammers and Goldeyes finish their three-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Devin Anderson (1-4, 5.48) gets the start for the Joliet JackHammers against RHP Andrew Walker (10-6, 3.63) for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
