MBFC Re-Signs Forward Jason Johnson
March 10, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, Calif. - Monterey Bay F.C. announced today that the Club has re-signed Jamaican international forward Jason Johnson ahead of the Crisp and Kelp's sophomore campaign in USL Championship and home-opening match of 2023 on Saturday against Hartford Athletic at Cardinale Stadium.
"JJ is over his injury situation now. He proved his fitness this preseason and he is going to fit right in," said Monterey Bay F.C. Sporting Director and Head Coach Frank Yallop. "He is a dynamic player and we are excited to have him back."
Johnson joined the Union midway through the 2022 season, but injury struggles hampered his availability. Johnson made just nine appearances last season (two starts) and created six chances. Now coming off of a healthy preseason, Johnson is ready to make his mark with the Crisp and Kelp in year two.
"I am very happy to be back. Being through preseason, I feel very good about myself physically and mentally going into this new season," explained Johnson. "I came here last season halfway through and through injuries, I couldn't give as much as I wanted to from the sidelines so I am happy for the opportunity again to help the team this season. We want to win games. We want to do something that we didn't do last year which is definitely qualifying for the playoffs. We want to get a playoff game here for the fans so that we can enjoy those playoff vibes here in Seaside."
