Macon Mayhem News Release
It wasn't ice with the bright sun raising the middle Georgia temperatures to the mid 80's, but it was hockey. The Macon Mayhem had a ball playing with personnel at the Robins Air Force Base Tuesday afternoon.
Mayhem players shed their regular hockey gear to play ball hockey at the outdoor hockey rink on the base. The hockey rink is part of the fitness center facilities at Robins Air Force base, and while Mayhem players were happy to show their skills and join in a fun exhibition game, they were also very impressed with the rink.
"This is great," right wing Jake Trask said. "I've seen and played on a lot of outdoor rinks, and this is by far the best."
Air Force members came out to sharpen their shooting, stickhandling and passing skills with tips from the Mayhem. After an informal clinic, there was a pick up game, with everyone having a good time.
The game began with a ceremonial face-off with base commander Colonel Jeff King dropping the ball (instead of a puck). Col. King had taken part in the Mayhem's ceremonial face-off on February 5th. He was happy to repeat the feat on his home turf.
"We are delighted to have you here'" he told the Mayhem players. "This is a great step in our new partnership with the Mayhem. Thank you for coming here to play on our rink."
The Mayhem begin a six game homestand on Thursday hosting the Knoxville Ice Bears at 7:30 p.m.
