Macon Mayhem News Release
LAST GAME PLAYED:
Macon got back into the win column on Thursday, as they defeated the Knoxville Ice Bears 4-2 and outshot them 38-18 in the game. Huntsville is riding a current two-game winning streak after dismantling the Fayetteville Marksmen 7-2 last night.
SCOUTING THE HAVOC:
This matchup features two of the highest scoring teams in the league, as the Mayhem rank second in goals per game and Huntsville ranks second. The Havoc rank slightly better in goals against per game, and their goaltending tandem of Keegan Asmundson and former Mayhem Mike DeLaVergne has been very solid. Asmundson ranks near the top of the league in wins and goals against average, while DeLaVergne ranks fifth in the SPHL in save percentage. Christian Powers continues to rank in the top five in goals this season, while Sy Nutkevitch ranks in the top five in points and assists. Huntsville is an extremely good home team, as they are 16-7-0 in 23 games at PharmacyFirst Ice this season.
STRUGGLING SPECIAL TEAMS:
The Mayhem will look to get their special teams back on track, as they have been struggling as of late. While they still rank in the top half of the league in power play percentage, they have converted on just five of their last 58 power play chances (8.6%). If there is any game to get back on track, this is the one. Huntsville sports the league's worst penalty kill, as they kill of just 77.8% of opposing power plays. On the contrary, the Mayhem's penalty kill has been near the bottom of the league for most of the season and continues to struggle. Despite killing off all four Knoxville power plays on Thursday, they have now allowed 16 goals on the last 70 opposing power play chances (22.9% opposing conversion rate.) Their struggling penalty kill gets a bad matchup tonight, as the Havoc have the best power play in the SPHL (21.5%).
GOOD TO BE BACK:
Mayhem forward Dylan Denomme has been in and out of the lineup all season, which has limited him to just 21 games this season. When he has been in the lineup, he has been very productive - especially over the last couple of months. Since returning to the lineup on January 19th, he has eight goals, six assists and 14 points over 14 games. He now has 10 goals and 18 points in 21 games this season.
BACK IN ACTION:
The Mayhem return to the Macon Coliseum next weekend for a two-game home stand, as the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs are in town on Friday and the Havoc on Saturday. The Mayhem will be celebrating Military Appreciation Weekend presented by Kellstrom Defense over the two-game stand.
