FLORENCE FREEDOM (4-1) vs. FRONTIER GREYS (1-3)

Thursday, May 21, 2015 - 6:35 p.m. ET

UC Health Stadium - Florence, KY

Game #6 - Home Game #6 (4-1), (4-1)

Florence: RHP #23 Chuck Weaver (1-0, 4.76 ERA)

Greys: RHP #26 Richard Bielski (1-0, 3.63 ERA, 2014)

Last time out...

The Florence Freedom (4-1), presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, saw their four game winning streak to open the season snapped with a 5-0 loss to the Frontier Greys (1-3) Wednesday night. Florence put runners on base in all nine innings but failed to convert their opportunities. Freedom starter Casey Henn (1-1), pitching on his 25th birthday, was the hard luck loser. The Cincinnati native fired five and two thirds innings, allowing two runs while fanning six Greys batters. An RBI single in the fourth inning was all the Greys needed in this game as Scott Carcaise reached when no one covered first on a grounder to Daniel Fraga at second base. On the play Zach Tanner came around to score. The Greys tacked on three more in the sixth, including a Tanner home run, to pull away. Steve Carrillo and Sam Eberle led the way at the dish for the Freedom, as both went two for four on the day.

For Starters...

Chuck Weaver is coming off a win over the Joliet Slammers on May 16. He went five and two thirds innings, scattering eight hits and allowing three runs in a 10-4 victory. Weaver walked one and struck out three in the outing. Weaver shined in 2014 as he finished the season with a 2.65 ERA, good for first on the team and fifth in the Frontier League. His notable outings included a career high eight innings of one-run ball against Southern Illinois on June 14, seven innings of one run ball on June 28 against River City, seven innings of shutout ball against Gateway on July 3 and seven innings of shutout ball against Traverse City on August 13. In 17 starts, Weaver went six or more innings 13 times. Weaver was signed by the Freedom in June 2013 after he finished up his collegiate career at IPFW. He had a solid rookie season, posting a 4-2 record with a 3.70 ERA in 14 appearances, 12 starts. The Ft. Wayne, Ind. native started 13 games as a senior for the Mastadons, posting a 2-5 with a 3.57 ERA. Weaver threw two complete games as a senior and pitched 70.2 innings. He played two years for IPFW after transferring from Vincennes University where he was named to the NJCAA All-Academic team.

Shutout...

The Freedom were shutout for the first time in 2015 last night. They were shutout five times in 2014.

Going for the series victory...

The Freedom are look to win their second straight series to start the 2015 season tonight. Last year they won 10 out of 18 series at home.

LOB...

The Freedom have left a combined 19 runners on base through two games against the Greys.

Frontier League Player of the Week...

Cody Bishop was named Frontier League Player of the Week for May 14-17. In his first season in the Frontier League as a member of the Florence Freedom, he recorded at least one hit in each game of his team's three-game sweep of the Joliet Slammers to open the 2015 season. On Friday, Bishop went 3-4 with a home run, two doubles, one RBI, and one run scored in Florence's 6-5 victory. He then followed that performance with a 2-3 night on Saturday hitting his second home run of the season while scoring two runs and driving in one in a 10-4 rout of Joliet to complete the sweep.

Excellent Eberle....

Sam Eberle is picking up right where he left off in 2014, hitting .400 (8-20) to start the year with two home runs and four RBI. He and Bishop each have two long balls, the only homers hit by Florence so far this season. Eberle already has four multi hit games to start the season.

Today's Special Jersey Number...

Cody Bishop is wearing jersey #61 tonight. The jersey is auctioned off to benefit the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky.
