The Mudcats continue a seven game road trip tonight with game one of four against the Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington. Carolina is coming off a series loss in Potomac and is currently 1-2 in the seven game trip. The Mudcats are 16-23 this season and currently sit in third place behind the Salem Red Sox and Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Carolina is 11.5 games back of first, 6.0 games back of second and just 2.0 games ahead of last place Winston-Salem. The Blue Rocks are coming off a 2-1 home series loss the Frederick Keys and currently sit in last place in the Northern Division. Wilmington is 15.5 games out first and enter tonight's game at 11-28 this season.
RHP Matt Withrow starts for the Mudcats in tonight's series opener in Wilmington. Withrow has not yet faced the Blue Rocks this season and enters at 1-3 with a 4.05 ERA over six starts this season. He last pitched on 5/14 against Lynchburg in Zebulon and allowed four runs on five hits over 5.0 innings pitched. He is 1-2 with a 6.46 ERA over his last three starts; with all three coming against the Carolina League Northern Division leading Hillcats. Lynchburg combined to hit four home runs off Withrow (including two in his last start on 5/14) over his last three starts and scored 11 runs on 13 hits over that stretch... RHP Josh Staumont will start for the Blue Rocks tonight and comes in at 0-4 with a 5.72 ERA over eight games and five starts. He has struck out 42 over 28.1 innings this season and is currently 3rd in the league in strikeouts and is the league leader in walks (26). Staumont has faced the Mudcats twice and has pitched to a 2.00 ERA over nine innings pitched against them (9.0ip, 7h, 2r, 2er, 5bb, 14so).
