Last time out ...

The Freedom clobbered the Slammers by a score of 10-4 on Saturday night to sweep the season-opening series against Joliet. Then they enjoyed two days off on Sunday and Monday. On Saturday the Freedom jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a RBI single from Austin Newell and a double play later in the inning that scored another run. Florence scored four runs in the third, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Sam Eberle and Cody Bishop. Then they tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning. A Daniel Fraga single scored Michael Pair and Elvin Rodriguez came around to score on a Slammer fielding error that allowed Zack Burling to reach first. Fraga scored the ninth run of the ballgame for the Freedom on Newell's sacrifice fly. Eberle closed out the scoring by ripping a double that scored Burling. Florence held a 10-0 lead after four. Chuck Weaver (1-0) went 5.2 innings for the win.

For Starters...

Coleman Stephens is coming off a brilliant outing on Opening Night to beat Joliet by a score of 3-1. He went seven innings, scattering five hits, allowing only one run, walking two and striking out four. 2015 is Stephens' fourth season of professional baseball and his second go-around in the Frontier League. Florence acquired Stephens as part of a three-team trade on December 28, 2014, which saw Jacob Tanis head to Windy City. The right-hander made his professional debut in 2012 with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings of the North American Baseball League. Stephens split the 2013 season between the Fort Worth Cats of the United League and the Frontier Greys, compiling an 8-3 record in 20 appearances, 18 starts. Last season, Stephens played in the American Association, splitting time between Amarillo and Gary.

Frontier League Player of the Week...

Cody Bishop was named Frontier League Player of the Week for May 14-17. In his first season in the Frontier League as a member of the Florence Freedom, he recorded at least one hit in each game of his team's three-game sweep of the Joliet Slammers to open the 2015 season. On Friday, Bishop went 3-4 with a home run, two doubles, one RBI, and one run scored in Florence's 6-5 victory. He then followed that performance with a 2-3 night on Saturday hitting his second home run of the season while scoring two runs and driving in one in a 10-4 rout of Joliet to complete the sweep.

Frontier Blues...

The Freedom only went 1-5 against the Frontier Greys in 2014.

We're going streaking...

With a win tonight the Freedom would push their season-opening winning streak to four games. That would match their longest winning streak from 2014, which came in the first four games of the season as well.

Excellent Eberle....

Sam Eberle is picking up right where he left off in 2014, hitting .333 (4-12) to start the year with two home runs and three RBI. He and Bishop each have two long balls, the only homers hit by Florence so far this season.

Walk this way...

The Freedom bullpen has a 1.93 ERA to start the year but they've walked 9 batters in 9.1 innings.

Returnees...

Eight of the team's 24 players were on the team last year. They are: RHP Pete Levitt, RHP Daniel DeSimone, RHP Chuck Weaver, RHP Casey Henn, RHP Ed Kohout, Catcher Gaby Juarbe, INF Sam Eberle and OF Ryan Solberg.

Today's Special Jersey Number...

Austin Newell is wearing jersey #61 tonight. The jersey is auctioned off to benefit the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky.
