Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, WA - Tyler Maxwell tied a franchise record with his 100th career goal as the Everett Silvertips lost a 3-2 decision to the Prince Albert Raiders Tuesday night at Comcast Arena. Maxwell's goal tied Shane Harper's all-time Everett record for career goals, giving him a chance to break the mark when the 'Tips host Saskatoon Friday night at 7:35 pm.
Maxwell and Ryan Murray each finished with two points on the night, assisting on each other's goals as the Silvertips twice moved within one but couldn't find the equalizer in the third period. Everett won the special teams battle on Tuesday, scoring a powerplay goal for the fifth straight game in a 1 for 4 effort on the man-advantage. The 'Tips were also a perfect 3 for 3 killing penalties as they held an opposing powerplay scoreless for the first time this year.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period as the Silvertips killed off two Raider powerplays, but also missed on a chance of their own in the first 20 minutes. Kent Simpson stopped all 11 shots he faced to keep the game scoreless heading into the second frame.
Prince Albert opened the scoring early in the second on an unassisted goal from Josh Morrissey, who found the top corner with a shot off the rush at 2:49. Mark McNeill made it 2-0 for the Raiders just five minutes later with a perfectly-placed wrist shot over Simpson's glove hand from the top of the circle. Everett had two powerplays in the middle stanza, but went to the locker room trailing 2-0.
The 'Tip found their footing on the powerplay midway through the third period when Ryan Murray stole a clearing attempt by Prince Albert netminder Eric Williams along the boards and centered the puck to Maxwell, who banged it into an open net to notched the franchise-record tying goal and cut the deficit in half. Everett's comeback would be stifled however when Jonas Knutsen scored on a rebound just over three minutes later to put the Raiders' lead at 3-1. With an extra attacker on in the final two minutes, the Silvertips again made it a one-goal game as Ryan Murray's shot from the blue line found the back of the net, but time would ultimately expire in the 3-2 loss.
Kent Simpson (1-3-0-1) had another busy night in goal, stopping 39 shots as the Silvertips were outshot by a 42-29 margin. Eric Williams (2-3-0-1) totaled 27 saves in his second win of the year.
The Silvertips will host another East Division team Friday night at Comcast Arena as the Saskatoon Blades come to town at 7:35 pm. Everett will then play at Spokane on Saturday before returning home to face the Tri-City Americans Sunday afternoon at 5:05 at Comcast Arena.
