Kansas City Mavericks News Release
MOLINE, Illinois - The Missouri Mavericks had their four-game winning streak snapped by the Quad City Mallards in a 6-1 loss at i wireless Center Sunday evening. Ed McGrane had the only score for the Mavericks. Quad City scored three goals in both the second and third periods, handing Missouri their 13th loss of the season. The Mavs will return home for a matchup with the Allen Americans this Friday, January 13 at Independence Events Center.
"That was a tough one, our penalty kill didn't get the job done," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "Power plays in two nights are in favor of Quad City 11-2 and it wears a team down."
The first period was scoreless between the two teams, with the Mallards outshooting the Mavericks 18-13.
The Mallards scored three goals in the second period, two of them coming on the power play. Obi Aduba, Brandon Marino and Bob Preece all netted the goals for Quad City during the period. Ed McGrane brought the Mavs to within two goals with a goal late in the second period. Tristin Llewellyn got his first point as a Maverick with an assist on the goal and Sebastien Thinel was credited with his 30th assist of the season on McGrane's 11th tally.
Quad City lengthened their lead to 4-1 on a goal from Jeremy Boyer at the 11:27 mark of the third period. The goal was unassisted. Jared Brown added an empty net goal for the Mallards, extending their third period lead to 5-1. Justin Chwedoryuk finalized the scoring on a goal with 11 seconds remaining in the game and sealed the 6-1 victory.
Missouri returns to Independence Events Center to face the Allen Americans on Friday night, January 13 at 7:05 p.m., and the Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday, January 15. The Mavs travel to Bloomington to take on the Blaze on Saturday, January 14 in between the two home games.
