The Mavericks and Aces played through a scoreless first period, with the home team edging the Mavs 11-9 in shots on goal.
Mavericks team captain, Trevor Ludwig, changed the pace of the game with a quick goal at 1:44 of the second period, with teammates Rocco Carzo and Sebastien Sylvestre picking up assists. The Mavs lead doubled 2-0 late in the frame at 17:43 when the puck deflected off an Aces player's skate past net minder Troy Redmann. Josh Holmstrom was credited with the tally for Missouri, giving the Colorado Springs, CO native a three-goal weekend against the Aces.
The Mavs maintained control of the puck and their 2-0 lead through majority of the third period until former Mavericks defenseman, Landon Oslanski, knocked in a point for the Aces with under two (2) minutes remaining in regulation. Alaska pulled Redmann from between the pipes in favor of an extra attacker, but Mavs defenseman, C.J. Ludwig, scored on the empty Aces net to seal a 3-1 Mavericks victory in the final seconds of the game.
The Mavericks return home to face the Wichita Thunder on Friday, Oct. 23 at the INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, KS before they take to the ice in their home-opener on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence, MO. Tickets are still available for the home-opener online at TicketMaster.com and in-person at arena box office.
