Colorado Eagles News Release

(Loveland, Colo.)- The Colorado Eagles fell to the Utah Grizzlies 5-2 Saturday night, behind a four-goal performance from Grizzlies forward Barry Almeida.

Utah got on the board first with Almeida scoring on a breakaway with just 1:55 remaining in the the first period. Collin Bowman would respond with a quick answer, as he scored with a shot from the point with thirty seconds left in the period.

Utah would storm back, however, scoring back-to-back goals to start the second period. Ryan Walters notched a tally six minutes into the second period on a breakaway, beating Eagles goaltender Kris Lazaruk on the blocker-side to give the Grizzlies their first lead of the night at 2-1. Almeida followed with his second breakaway goal of the game just 16 seconds later to give Utah the 3-1 advantage.

The Eagles would claw back to within one, as Nathan Moon added a goal for the Eagles on a tip-in at the 10:37 mark in the second, making it 3-2 Utah. That would be as close as the Eagles would get however, as Almeida and Utah would continue to stay hot in the third period.

Almeida completed his hat-trick after a Jake Marto clearing attempt from behind the net ricocheted off of Almeida's skate and into the back of the net with 4:12 gone in the final frame. With the Grizzlies ahead 4-2 and time winding down, the Eagles pulled Lazaruk in favor of the extra attacker. Almeida found a loose puck in the Utah zone with only 14 seconds remaining and shot it the length of the ice and into the empty net to complete his four-goal night.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 21st when they play host to the Allen Americans at the Budweiser Events Center.
