WEEK IN REVIEW
Weekly Record: 1-1-0 Overall: 11-7-3
Friday, December 10 - Missouri 3 vs. Quad City 4
The Mallards scored three goals in the first period and fought off a valiant comeback attempt by the Mavericks to win, 4-3. Two goals by Mike McLean and 38 saves by Adam Russo were enough to seal away the Mallards' victory and hand the Mavericks their second straight loss, dropping the Mavericks to 10-7-3 on the season. Quad City moved back to the .500 mark, improving their record to an even 10-10-0 in their inaugural season in the Central Hockey League.
Saturday, December 11 - Missouri 4 vs. Fort Wayne 1
The Missouri Mavericks faced the Fort Wayne Komets Saturday night at Independence Events Center. The Mavericks fired up the offense and defeated Fort Wayne, 4-1. Mavericks' goaltender and Central Hockey League (CHL) goals-against average leader Rob Nolan stole the show with 26 saves on 27 shots and was named the game's first star. Rookie forward Walker Wintoneak continued his hot streak, recording two assists in the effort.
Promotions & Notes
Coach's Show at Side Pockets - Tonight is the third of six Coach's Shows at Side Pockets. Join Head Coach Scott Hillman and the Mavericks' in-arena host Sarah as they discuss everything Mavericks. There will also be a Q & A session for fans at the end, and Side Pockets will have food and drink specials.
Nolie the Goalie - Mavericks' goaltender Rob Nolan continues to lead the CHL in goals-against average after saving 26 of 27 shots in a 4-1 win Saturday night against Fort Wayne. Nolan's GAA sits at 2.06 and he has won five of his last seven games (6-3-2 overall).
On the road again - The Mavericks have played the fewest road games in the CHL to this point in the season with just seven tilts away from Independence. Five of the Mavericks' next seven games are on the road including a three-in-three set in Wichita and Tulsa the three days following Christmas day.
Five-on-Five play - Missouri has played well this season during five-on-five play. The Mavericks have outscored their opponents 42-30 when the teams are even strength skating five-on-five. The 42 goals account for 67% of the Mavericks goals.
PP struggles - The Mavericks power play has struggled in December going just 1-for-27 in the past four games. Missouri has not scored a power play goal in their last 24 opportunities, and the team now sits in last place in the CHL on the power play converting on 14% of their chances.
Scoring first - This season, the team that scores first has a win percentage of 67% overall in the CHL, but that has not been the case for the Mavericks. Missouri is 6-5-2 this season when scoring first (54%), but the Mavericks are 5-2-1 when allowing the first goal for a .688 win percentage which is much higher than the league average of 33% when allowing the first goal.
Fewer PIM wins - The Mavericks are 7-1-0 this season when the team records fewer penalty minutes than their opponent.
Spreading the wealth - The Mavericks get their scoring from nearly every player on the team. Missouri has nine players on the roster with at least five goals and no player has more than seven. Forwards Nick Sirota and Walker Wintoneak are tied for the team lead with seven goals each, but Missouri still has seven players within two goals of the team lead.
