INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks are undefeated on home ice and hold a 3-0 lead in the Show Me Cup series with a dramatic 5-4 victory on Friday night over their in-state rivals, the St. Charles Chill.

The Mavericks improve to 10-2-0 overall and break free of any risk of a losing streak, while the Chill, dropping their sixth straight game in a row, have a sour taste in their mouth after their closest chance at a victory since Nov. 2nd was stripped away in the final seconds of play.

St. Charles was first on the board. Steve Anthony, scoring unassisted to open his team's offensive efforts, was handed a golden opportunity when Anders Franzon lost control of the puck just outside the Mavericks' crease. Matt Stephenson would answer for the Mavericks and get the equalizer at the six minute mark of play with assists from Colt King and Mike Ramsay.

Missouri was offered two power plays in the first period, but unable to generate a successful scoring opportunity, the Mavericks let Chill forward Jordan Fox take a short-handed goal from the situation, putting the Chill ahead 2-1 to end the first period.

Entering the second period, St. Charles controlled a good amount of the play and scored early to put themselves ahead 3-1 before five minutes had passed. Needing a goal, the Mavericks continued to throw out as much energy as they could onto the ice, but short playmaker Colt King, who was removed from the game early in the second period for an illegal check to the head after he was assessed a game misconduct and a match penalty, the Mavs seemed to have dwindling hope.

Andrew Courtney re-ignited the Independence Events Center with a Mavericks goal assisted by Eric Castonguay and Colten Hayes at the six minute mark to come within one of the Chill 3-2.

The Chill came into the third period dominant. St. Charles defenseman, Tony DeHart lit the lamp for his team only twenty seconds into the final period, taking a 4-2 lead over the Mavericks. Far from struggling, the Mavericks had to find a way to make their play connect with goals. Shane Owen replaced Joe Howe immediately following the Chill's fourth goal and it was go-time for the Mavericks.

Rob Kleebaum would get the equalizer at 17:33 to bring the Mavericks crowd to their feet, assisted by Sebastien Thinel and Matt Stephenson. Tied at 4-4 it was a game. Surely heading to overtime with less than a minute of play in the period, the arena grew louder, and then even louder when Evan Vossen, unassisted, scored the game winning goal with 10 seconds left on the clock. The Mavericks took the match 5-4 over the Chill.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night at the Independence Events Center. The Mavericks lead the Show Me Cup series 3-0 over the Chill and have a 3-0-0 record against their St. Charles foes. Dave Pszenyczny returns Saturday night from a 3-game suspension.

Sebastien Thinel notched his 549th assist of his Central Hockey League career on Friday night, solidifying his place as 3rd in All-Time CHL Assists. Thinel also leads the league in all-time assists amongst active CHL players.

The Mavericks drop the puck at 7:05pm at the Independence Events Center against the St. Charles Chill on Saturday, November 23rd. The Missouri Mavericks are proud to announce the new Mavericks Bud Light Good Times Seats in section 115.
